Bay Islands

..slight change of plans!

semi-overcast 26 °C

Ok, so.... there was a slight change in plans for our time here on the Bay Islands. Long story short, we are now PADI Open Water SCUBA Divers. Yeah, just slightly different. We have now done six dives, two in shallow water, and four open water dives, two of which were fun dives and just consisted of swimming with the fishies in the ocean! Our time underwater was absolutely amazing, mom, I can see why whenever you talk about Diving, your eyes light up.. the experence is absolutely incredible. For those of you landlubbers who han't tried it, the best I can do is say that its like almost nothing you've ever experienced. BUT, the sensation of neutral bouyancy is much like flying... but add into that the fact that you are breathing with millions of litres of water around you, and 18 metres (60 ft) below the surface... the experience tingles every sense.. and stimulates every part of your body. You are acutely aware of your life, you pay attention to every breath you take, first because you have this mouth piece (Regulator Second Stage) jamed between all your teeth and whenever you inhale, you here the valve open to let air into your lungs, and because every exhale, bubbles surround your head. The life around you is absolutely buzzing with vibrant colours, excitement, and a wild aspect you don't get to see in any zoo or aquarium. It is your personal aquarium, the only limit is the amount of air you take down with you.. and your stamina. I'm sure that the parents will recieve our certfication cards before we will, since they are sent to your home address. On behalf of all of us, we give you permission to use them as brag tags... lol. We are feeling great, having an absolutely mind blowing time and cooking for ourselves to save money, on account of spending extra money on the Dive Course.

I have recently been looking at the Semi-Formal pictures, everyone looks in great spirits, and boy I must say... the bunch of you clean up well!

Missing you all,

Happy trails,

Ryan

P.S.: The reason I called everyone hosers was because the only way we can tell who is reading the blog is if you leave us comments! Plus, I get updates from Jessie, Mom and Ciara... but the rest I don't hear from as much! I miss you guys, write and huge one.. write it like its an e-mail.. put memories in it.. tell me whats going on.. ANYTHING!

Peace.

Hi Ryan
You express yourself so beautifully that I enjoyed and envied your underwater experiences at the same time. I wish that I could do the same thing but I'm claustrophobic. One of Erin's friends is an instructor for scuba accredication and she, like your mom, can't say enough about the experience. Both Betty and I wish you an inspiring and safe journey. We always look forward to reading more of your adventures. love Papa

Hey Ryan, my boy - so great to hear from you! Now we can dive together, this rocks!! I know exactly what you mean, it is a magnificent experience, none other can compare. Your writing of this experience is wonderful, you feel like you are right there with you. You guys must of had such a great time hanging out in the depths of the ocean. Tell me what did you see, sharks, coral, sing rays or what . . . I, of course have seen all of the above!
Weather here is warming up somewhat, highs at least above zero, thank goodness. Dad and I would like to go away for Easter, but have not decided on where. The house is too quiet and clean without you . . .bring on the mess!! The grocery bill is just too small without you. Doggie can't figure out where you are and misses you a lot. Work is busy and interesting, but nothing new there. . hoping there may be a new position that I will apply for (Special invests only)and my chances are better than good. Jack and Rob are here this weekend and the girls killed the guys at cards! We have booked the houseboat trip with Jim and Terri for early August on lake Tamagami, that should be a blast. Girls are coming for dinner on Friday, so that should keep your Dad in the kitchen where he belongs. . . no we are not having any more children just so you know! Sounds like Papa and Betty are having a blast reading about your adventures. Send pictures and call soon, hopefully before the girls come for dinner. Where to next . . Nicaragua! Love you to bits. Mom xoxoxoxo

Hi Craig and your gang
I have been keeping up on your trip and have been enjoying what you have been writing. The people sound pretty interesting down there. Do you think you will ever want to come home. Since Ellen started travelling all she thinks about is where she is going next. She is heading to Kenya next month for a month. She is going with an organization that is doing medical care. The weather is getting pretty nice here too. Maybe not as hot as you have - but am thinking of when I can open the pool. Bryan been heavy into homework. Do you miss homework?
Well keep up the stories we are all enjoying them. Love Aunt Jane

Good Evening Leigh Leigh

I heard you were talking with dad on MSN. Sorry I missed you, but somebody has got to make a living. I miss you very much. I am listening to my ipod as I am writing to you listening to some Jack Johnson. You have converted me to his music. Not too bad of a conversion.
Thanks for the update of what you guys are doing. Ryan your description was fabulous. It felt like I was right there with you guys.
But I am like your dad....I think I would get a little claustrophobic. If my feet can touch the bottom I will be OK. Do you think I can get my certificate doing that?
Not too much happening here. On the weekend we went and watched some curling. Bradley was in hesterics with the game. You know how he screams when he is watching sports on TV well dito with live curling. It was hard to get him away from it.
We went to the show also and saw "Shooter." It was a really good movie. Leigh I think you would like this one.
That is a good idea cooking some of your meals. Leigh I am sure you are OK with that. Then more spending can be utulized for things like scuba diving etc. Great idea...
We had a thunder storm this morning but it did not last too long.
That is about it for now.
Miss you Love You Leigh
Be safe!!!!!!
Love MOM

ha ha, so you want to hear whats goin on eh? well the most exciting thing that's happened to me since you guys left was about a month ago (I think I told a couple people this, but dont remember who). my mom came and picked me up to go to work after a small round at ramsay's house, and on the way to work (we were driving the 'shaggin wagon' [large 89' chevy van]) when we all of a sudden heard something metal scrape the ground beneath us and we hit a huge bump. My mom was worried that we popped a tire or something so she pulled over. well, down the road I saw a huge chunk of something lying in the middle of the road (horseshoe valley road) with cars swerving around it. So (as hungover as I was) I ran towards it so I could see what it was and move it off the road if possible. Well, it turns out it was our muffler! and it was huge/heavy/hot. so here I am, slightly hungover at 8:45 in the morning, carrying this huge hot muffler down the side of the road because it rusted off my van (and in case your wondering, my van sounds kinda like a cigarette boat / tank when it has no muffler).

So, I know its lame, but thats the best story I have at the moment, cant wait until your next update on the trip and seeing some more pictures! (I wish I was an open water scuba diver!)

Hi Ryan, Jim and I been reading about your adventures...sounds like scuba diving has got a big fan in you. Lucky guy - we can only dream about vibrant colours as it's really dreary around here, gray snow and tons of wet mud! It is warmer though so spring is in the air and that makes everyone a little happier. Your mom says the houseboat trip is booked but HA! to her - it's not booked yet! Workin' on it.......does it feel like you've been away forever? Your parents talk about you a lot so I'm guessing they miss you. I LOVE that short haircut of yours - I told Tina she has to keep that up when you get back. No more of that long stuff........enjoy, Ryan!
